Winding down from the day and taking a moment or two to sit back and relax with a glass of red wine before dinner is something I look forward to sharing every evening with my true better-half. White wine is considered an apértif in place of a cocktail and enjoyed before the evening meal, but my usual preference is a good Pinot Noir or Merlot.
I was pleasantly surprised by the qualities of this 2008 Pinot Noir by Blackstone Winery. While I’ve read it described as offering “pleasing aromas of black cherry, violets and cherry candy” – truth be told, I don’t “wine speak” well especially in the area of aromas. However, I will eagerly share this about the three bottles of Pinot I enjoyed from this winery, the tannins are delicately more pronounced than in most other Pinots I’ve tasted. It leaves a slightly drier but still smooth finish. It’s wonderful and right now I am engaged with this Pinot.
It’s affordable to enjoy more regularly and will pair well with either your casual pasta or pizza meal or that bbq’d steak you’re planning during these next months.

I’ve never tried Blackstone before, but I do love Pinot Noir – the very first red wine I fell in love with, after I almost choked on a Cabernet that wasn’t really ready for drinking 😛 Will definitely look out for this winemaker. Thanks for the tip 🙂

Hi Denise – looking forward to hearing that story about the bad-Cab? Bad wine is unforgettable, isn’t it? =)
Roti n Rice says
I don’t remember trying wines from this vineyard. Will check this out the next time I go to the liquor store.

Hey Biren: Let me know how you liked it too, if you give it a try! =)
Lisa { AuthenticSuburbanGourmet } says
Blackstone produces a nice wine. Wonderful for either a Wednesday wine or have for a special occasion.
Teenie Cakes says
Hi Lisa: I must admit…I think I could enjoy a glass most everyday. I’m looking forward to trying their other wines. Any recommendations? Have you had their Merlots or Cabernet Sauvignon?
Magic of Spice says
Great review, I have had the pleasure of the Blackstone Pinot Noir.
Teenie Cakes says
I’m glad you liked it too. It’s finish is a little different from other Pinots, wouldn’t you agree?
bunkycooks says
Funny that I should read your post as I am drinking a really nice Pinot Noir right now! When they are good, they are really, really good and when they are bad…well they are really bad! I am glad that we are both having a nice Pinot! 🙂

Cheers to all Pinot aficianados, Gwen! 🙂
tasteofbeirut says
duly noted as Pinot Noir is my favorite wine.
Teenie Cakes says
Yes, tasteofbeirut – Pinot is my favorite right now too. Does it get any better? =)
Although, as the weather is getting warmer right now, I do enjoy a glass of Moscato every now and then too.
zerrin says
I must search for this at the market. I love to taste new wines, my favorite ingredient with wine is cheese. Hope to find it!
Teenie Cakes says
Hi Zerrin: I hope you find it too, to give it a try! I luv cheeses and do enjoy it with wines also. =)
Joanne says
Hi,
I love Pinot Noir too. It goes with fish, especially salmon, and dishes that have mushrooms in it. I hope you try pinot with these ingredients also.
Thanks for sharing.
Joanne
Teenie Cakes says
Hi Joanne: Yes, you’re absolutely right…we eat salmon at least once a week and I do enjoy a glass of Pinot either before or during the meal. The mushrooms are a great suggestion!

The only thing more refreshing than closing the day with a glass of wine is a wine review without all the stuffy words! Sometimes I want to scream, “What the…. are you talking about? Is it good or isn’t it!” Always looking for a good wine… will definitely make Blackstone my next choice.
Teenie Cakes says
Pixel: Thank you for your comment! You had me laughing because that’s how I feel too. “Wine Speak” or “Wine flowery language” frustrates me because, I guess, I don’t taste or smell all the things that they write I should in many wines. It can be intimidating. I won’t let that deter me from enjoying it though. It’s too much a part of my life now! =)
Look forward to hearing how you liked this bottle of Blackstone.
The Cilantropist says
This sounds like a great Pinot (which is one of my favorite reds)! Did you get the wine direct from the winery or did you pick them up at a store?
Teenie Cakes says
Hi Cilantropist: I’ve picked up bottles from both my local Albertsons and Vons. I’ve searched online for it to get a feel for the pricing, but looks like for many online sources it’s sold-out or unavailable to their inventory.

I love Pinot Noir. It is a light and enjoyable wine to drink. I tried it after I saw the movie “Sideways”, and enjoyed it ever since. It is fun trying different bottles of the same grape, they all have their unique taste. Thanks for sharing this one!
Teenie Cakes says
I must admit…Merlot was my favorite choice until I watched “Sideways” and it piqued my interest re Pinots. Now I enjoy a glass of Pinot more regularly.
