I had this book pre-ordered and received it a couple of months ago. Haven’t had the pleasure of making anything from it yet, but I did review it for ideas for last month’s Daring Baker’s challenge for April 2009.
What caught my eye about this book was the “bite-size” word. I’m all for portion control and bite-size can make some beautiful presentations. Also, they’re kid friendly and inviting. They can be a bit more laborious in preparation, but baking time is cut considerably.
The book is called “Bite-Size Desserts – creating mini sweet treats, from cupcakes and cobblers to custards and cookies” by Carole Bloom. I purchase most of my books from Amazon.com and would sometimes appreciate knowing what’s in the contents before purchasing (especially if I’m pre-ordering). The book is organized well — here’s the rundown:
Chapter One: Making Bite-Size Desserts: Ingredients, Equipment, and Techniques
Chapter Two: Cakes, Cupcakes and Brownies
Chapter Three: Scones, Shortcakes, Muffins, and Pastries
Chapter Four: Tartlets, Cobblers, Crisps, Turnovers, and Galettes
Chapter Five: Mousses, Custards, and Puddings
Chapter Six: Cookies
Chapter Seven: Sorbets and Ice Creams
Chapter Eight: Candies
Each recipe has a nice intro before the recipe and many recipes have features after recipe entitled
- Keeping (how to best store the dessert)
- Streamlining (tips and tricks)
- Adding Style (presentation tips)
- Making a Change (other recipe alternatives or addition ideas)
Other highlights about this beautiful book:
- 87 easy and quick to prepare mini desserts
- 22 mini chocolate dessert recipes
Many beautiful food photography images to support the recipes. As I experiment with some of the recipes I’ll post and make reference to this book and post.
