The month of July is not only National Ice Cream Month, it is also the peak of peach season! In honor of the two, I’m using up some Babcock peaches in this lighter ice cream version.
There is no type or kind of dessert my Hubbs loves more than ice cream. His favorite? Chocolate chip with the shaved bits of chips…he’s a happy man when there’s ice cream in the house! Since we have a bountiful harvest of garden peaches, peach ice cream must be made.
I’ve lightened up this recipe using low-fat milk, cut down on the sugar (but then added a tablespoon or two of honey!) and roughly chopped up peeled peaches. I wanted chunks of frozen peaches in the ice cream, but the pieces turned out smaller than I wanted after it went through the freezing process in my ice cream machine. When I make this again, I’ll add an additional peach and chop up the peaches a littler larger.
If you don’t want chunks of peaches in your ice cream, whip ’em up to a desired consistency using your food processor or blender.
This is a light, tasty peach ice cream that has a pretty “peachy” color to it. While peaches are at their sweetest right now, whip up a batch or two!
- Fig Ice Cream with Black Mission Fig Compote
- Olive Oil Gelato
- Chocolate covered frozen Banana Bon-Bons with Pistachios
- Paletas de fresa aka Strawberry Ice Pops
- 3 cups roughly chopped, peeled peaches (about 1.5 pounds)
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1-2 tablespoons honey
- ½ cup low-fat (2%) milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Combine peaches and remaining five ingredients in a large bowl.
- Pour peach mixture into the freezer canister of an ice-cream/gelato machine and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Transfer ice cream into a freezer-safe container, cover and allow to freeze at least an additional 2-3 hours to overnight.

- I’ve used juicy, sweet Babcock peaches in this recipe.
- If you would prefer not to have chunks of peaches in your ice cream, run it through a food processor or blender to roughly break down.
- I’ve cut the sugar down on this recipe, but added the 1-2 tablespoons of honey.

Peaches are my favorite fruit, and now I can’t wait to make my own homemade peach ice cream. I love that you’ve lightened up this recipe. Just my style. I’ll have to hide some of this in the back of my freezer so that I can enjoy peaches after the season is over.
