Still going strong with your healthful New Year resolutions? Here’s a little indulgence that will keep you happy, a maple with honey, nuts and fruit granola inspiration…
One of the many things to love about homemade granola is how versatile and creative you can be with your own assemblage of ingredients. Whether you’re adding more dried fruit, omitting it altogether or adding a variety of nuts, it’s a personal venture.
I had some leftover unsweetened puffed wheat cereal that was used for some homemade granola bars and added them to this granola recipe. Loved it! When shopping around for puffed wheat cereal, look for a selection that is fat, sugar and sodium free, and preferably “organic” if it doesn’t break the bank!
A touch of coarse salt added to the granola, adds a really nice contrast and cuts the sweetness without being overdone. Just add a pinch or measure it out to about a ¼ teaspoon or so.
Since you’re measuring out ingredients for this granola, you may want to just double the recipe and make two baking sheets. It will disappear quickly with either snacking on it or sprinkling it over your serving of yogurt!
Enjoy!

I absolutely adore granola so, yeah, I’ll be taking your advice and doubling the batch. Like you, I love adding a little salt for the contrast (and because I love salt). The granola looks fantastic.

Love the idea of using “extras” hanging out in the cupboards to make an awesome granola like this. And definitely that touch of salt! Makes all the difference.
