Even with this season’s high warmer temperatures, the growth and abundance of summer’s tomato and tomatillo harvest in Southern California’s home gardens is at its best.
Tomatillo means “little tomato” in Spanish. These firm, green globes grow packaged in an inedible, husk like material. Also known as husk tomato, ground or husk cherry, Mexican tomato and green tomato. These green tomatoes are not the same as unripe green tomatoes.
The tomatillo is a common ingredient in Latin American green sauces and salsas. They are fantastic as a base for taquitos!
My next post will feature these vibrant and flavorful garden fresh tomatoes.

I really love tomatoes. I love them in my salad and even in my burger. Thanks a lot for the great share.

My tomatoes are so behind this year because of lousy weather that they’re still in the flowering stage. I hope I’ll get some fruit. Love that first photo!

Hi Melissa: It’s a bit too warm where I am that during the last couple of days, my tomato plants are looking ragged. Poor things. I’m sure you will have beautiful n tasty tomatoes in no time. They’re probably right on track! 🙂
