Listening to the news this evening, I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear that legendary visionary Steve Jobs passed away today at the, by all accounts, very young age of 56. Although I’m probably one of the last Web designers still on a PC and do not yet own an iPhone, I can thoroughly appreciate and attest to the contributions and the brilliance that Jobs has pushed, proved and paved the way for the way we work, play and communicate in our day-to-day lives in this country. Even just being a fan and love of Pixar and my trusty favorite iPods are a part of what this man has meant to me, if even in a smaller way.
My heart goes out to Steve’s family, friends and industry for his passing.
I was greeted this morning by the threat of gray skies and rain in the forecast. Rain. Much needed and welcomed rain for the day – what a perfect way to start the Fall season.
There’s still time to enjoy some gorgeous looking figs in the markets. This accumulation of ingredients comes from Leite’s Culinaria feature on Leah Koenig’s cookbook, The Hadassah Everyday Cookbook. This is a quickie appetizer that’s fantastic to serve at small gatherings or kickin’ back enjoying a bottle of wine your better-half. Besides the deliciousness that are figs, the honey with the salty pistachios are just lovely. I didn’t so much change the ingredients of these stuffed figs as much as I might have improvised on how it’s served and the amount of honey.

8 fresh figs, washed, stems removed
1/2 cup fresh ricotta
1/4 cup shelled, roasted pistachios, coarsely or finely chopped
1/4 to 1/2 cup (plus much more if you enjoy honey)
Mint leaves for garnish
Split each fig 3/4 of the way down the middle of each fig.
Using a teaspoon, fill the center of each fig with ricotta.
Pour honey in a small bowl that’s wide enough to fit a fig in.
Place pistachios in a shallow bowl.
Gently pick up each fig and roll 1/3 of its base in the honey to coat. Roll the honey-coated part of the fig in the pistachios. Place each fig on a serving plate and garnish with a mint leaf.

Hey Cristina! These are beautifully photographed. I make something similar, but with goat cheese and roasted almonds… and I roast the figs in the oven for a few minutes. Makes them nice and juicy. Great post!
